Geraets was born on April 5, 1909 near Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Henry and Mary ‎(Rickerl)‎ Geraets. He lived his entire life in and around the Dell Rapids area. On February 11, 1936 he married Johann Slinger at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. They were engaged in farming in the area until retiring and moving into Dell Rapids in 1972. Johanna died on March 27, 1994. John became a resident of Terrace Manor in September of 2001. John died on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. He was 96 and preceded in death by his parents, his six brothers and four sisters. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Donald ‎(Rosetta)‎ Geraets of Mason City, OA; his six grandchildren, Dawn, Tim, Michelle, Serena, Troy and Niccole; ten great grandchildren; his brother, Frank ‎(Anita)‎ of Dell Rapids; and his three sisters, Helen Heinemann of Pipestone, MN, Margaret Mairose of Sioux Falls, and Delores ‎(Nick)‎ Saviola of Dell Rapids.
