Obituary: The Brainerd Daily Dispatch - (Jun/9/2004)
Dorothy M. Barthel, age 72, resident of Pequot Lakes, Minn., formerly of New Brighton, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her home. Dorothy was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Brownsdale, Minn., to John and Cecilia (Frein) Bottema. She married Marsen Barthel on Nov. 6, 1954, in Dayton, Minn. She was a teacher and principal with the archdiocese of St. Paul for 30 years. She moved to the Pequot Lakes area in 1990 from New Brighton, Minn. She was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes serving as an Eucharistic minister and liturgist, CCW, Befriender Ministry, League of Women Voters, and active in pro-life issues. She was an avid writer, corresponding with many.
Survivors include her husband, Marsen; son, Mark and wife Dianne Barthel, Albertville; daughters, Judy Barthel and husband Jim Whalen, Brainerd; Amy Barthel and husband Jim Fuller, Mounds View; son, Father Ray Ronquillo of Fort Francis, Canada; grandchildren, Michelle, Kyle, Elizabeth, Joshua, Zachary, Jordan, Lance, Hannah, Benjamin and Victoria; sisters, Margaret Zachman, Bonita Wehmhoff, Anne Frischmon; brother, William Bottema.
Preceded in death by her parents and brothers John, Joe and Robert.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes with Father George Zeck officiating. Visitation at the church 8 a.m. Wednesday until service time.
