Peoria Journal Star, The (IL) - August 11, 1999 Deceased Name: BERNADINE BROE WASHINGTON -- Bernadine J. Broe, 73, of Washington died at 8:36 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born July 18, 1926, in Lafayette, Ind., to John F. and Eva Klavenga Jansen, she married Russell E. Broe on May 31, 1954, in Lafayette. He died Oct. 19, 1983, in Peoria. Surviving are two daughters, Diana Zeman of Omaha, Neb., and Kathleen (James) Schertz of Metamora; one son, Kevin of Naperville; two sisters, Marie McGriff of Lafayette and Betty Christopher of Brookston, Ind.; and five grandchildren. She cared for children in her home for more than 40 years. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2078 Auxiliary in East Peoria. She also was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. James Swaner will officiate. A children's service will be at 5 p.m. today at Deiters Funeral Home, where visitation will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. and recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
