Charles and Minnie lived on the Emory Buttleman farm. They had to clear all the land for the house, barn, and faming land. In the 1920's a barn was raised with the help of neighbors and friends. After it was completed, a big barn dance was held. Charles was active in the township government. He served as Justice of the Peace many years in Claybanks Township. He held various offices on the school board. At the Peace Lutheran Church, he held various offices. Charles also hauled milk from the local farmers, and hauled it to Claybanks Creamery. It was located on M99 about a quarter mile past where Frank Lohman lived. Source: Oceana County History 1880-1990 Volume I page 445. |
