Death | 25 December 2014 (Age 92) Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan, USA Source: Obituaries - Muskegon Chronicle Source Text: Houseman, John Norton Shores Mr. John Houseman, age 92, went to be home with his Lord on December 25, 2014 at his home. He was born on May 3, 1922 in New Era, MI to Louis and Adriana (Vanderstelt) Houseman. John graduated from Shelby High School, and earned a BA and MA from Western Michigan University. He married the former Genevieve Fekken in 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1970. John taught school in Oceana rural schools, Hartford Street Christian School and Montague Public School. He was Principal at Rothbury School and retired as Director of Migrant Education. John's entire life was spent active in a church, either in New Era where he was a Sunday School teacher and Youth Director, First CRC in Muskegon or at Fruitport CRC. He will also be remembered for his hospitality that he enjoyed doing for others. He married Margaret Schmitt Palsrok in 1970 and together they were foster parents to two young children. They did mission work together in Columbia, South America and in New Mexico. John was also a Big Brother. SURVIVORS include his wife, Margaret; two sons, Darrell (Joyce) Houseman and Jerry Houseman; three step-children, Marcia (Clayton) Strait, Maureen (Dennis) Boelkins, Rev. Matthew (Connie) Palsrok; 26 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother, Dan (Joann) Houseman; and two sisters-in-law, Rica Houseman and Jean Lundell. John was also preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Pastor Joe Glover; great grandson, Baby Hodges; four brothers, Nunna, George, Neil, and Louis Houseman; and four sisters, Marguerite (Egbert) Wierenga, Anna Southland Jolliff, Bowena (Howard) Evans, and Jeannette (Glen) Coors. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. The MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11AM Monday at Fruitport CRC (3520 Pontaluna Rd) with Rev. Bob Pohler officiating.
