Obituary: Shelby - Jacob Fekken, 81, of 1949 Ray Ave., New Era, died Monday at Oceana County Convalescent Hospital, Hart. Mr. Fekken was born in the Netherlands Feb. 11, 1882, and came to Chicago in 1888. As an adult he worked as a varnish maker. He married Elizabeth VanDyke in Chicago May 11, 1904. The couple came to Shelby in 1922, moving to New Era in 1924. Mr. Fekken worked for New Era Canning Co., 27 years. He was warehouse foreman the last 15 years of his association with that company. He was a charter member of the New Era Bible Church. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian VanderMolen of Berwyn, Illinois, and Mrs. Ruth Arthurhultz of Montague; a brother, Ben Fekken Sr., of New Era; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Shelby. Burial will be at New Era Cemetery. |
